Sarah Heising

Hello, citizens of Wauseon. I am so privileged to serve on our city council on your behalf. My main focus is to ensure that our hard-earned tax money is spent well. As an educator, wife, and mother of five, I am also interested in bringing a varied perspective to the council in order to better serve you all. As my children got older, I felt it was the right time for me to step up and serve my community as I have owned a home within the city limits for nearly 25 years. I was originally appointed to fill an unexpired term in 2021 and am now fulfilling an elected term ending in December of 2025.

I was born in the Chicago area before my family relocated to NW Ohio when I was very young. My father traveled for business, so chose Wauseon as our new home mainly due to the turnpike exit. He and his business partner later owned and ran a business in Wauseon for many years. I graduated from Pettisville and then with honors from The University of Toledo. Upon graduation, I returned to Wauseon to teach art before eventually leaving the teaching field to help raise our children after marrying my husband Derek in 2002.  I worked for the Toledo Museum of Art for quite a few years and returned to traditional teaching in 2021. I currently teach art in an urban Title 1 school in Toledo. I enjoy traveling, creating, playing the piano, and you will usually find me running kids to their activities, at church, or trying to keep up with family meals.
