Happy New Year Wauseon!
I am very excited to be sending this monthly newsletter to you. One of my goals for 2015 is to have better communication from the city office to our citizens. January is in full swing and with it brings its bitter cold and dangerous weather conditions. I would like to remind all our citizens of the Wauseon Corporation snow levels:
Level One - When there has been an accumulation of two inches of snow in the City of Wauseon, a notice of emergency goes with a level one: All autos are to be removed from the street to allow for safe snow removal. Level one emergency will remain in effect until the streets have been cleared of snow.
Level Two: Roadways are extremely hazardous with blowing snow or ice covered. Only under extreme necessity should anyone be traveling the streets. Contact your employer regarding your work shift. Public safety employees and health care workers are to report for work if possible.
Level Three: Public employees and emergency workers and health care personnel shall be allowed on the roadways. Unless there is an emergency with your family you are required to stay off all roadways.
You may be stopped by the police department and ask for your reasoning for being on the roadway. If found not having a valid reason you will be sent directly home.
All sidewalks are to be shoveled 24 hours after the completion of snowfall.
Reminder: it is unlawful to blow snow, plow or shovel your driveway and sidewalk snow into our city streets. This creates a hazardous condition in our streets. We appreciate all of your efforts with keeping our sidewalks safe for citizens and our young ones walking to school.
Keep warm and stay safe during these bitter conditions of January
The Mayor and Council thank everyone who filled out the pool survey. Attached are the results of the survey.
In the event of any measurable snowfall of 2" or more, please move your vehicles off the roadway for 24 hours after the snowfall. This will give the public works crews time enough to clear off the roadways.
All sidewalks are required to be shoveled within that same 24 hour period after any measurable snowfall. This is for your own safety as well as the safety of other pedestrians that utilize the sidewalks. We want to avoid forcing pedestrians to walk in the roadways or anyone getting hurt from falling on un-shoveled walks.
Lastly, when shoveling out driveways please avoid from pushing the snow out into the roadway. We have had several accidents in the past from unsuspecting motorists hitting snow piles left in the roadway.
Thank you in advance for all your help and consideration in these matters.
