Mayor's Messiage - Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Happy Spring Wauseon!   Congratulations on making it through another winter.  Unfortunately with spring comes a lot of winter clean-up and wind.  Here are a few reminders for our brush pickup policy;

Two pickups per month in the north and south sections of town

North section pickup is the 1st and 3rd week of the month

South section pickup is the 2nd and 4th week of the month

Branches and limbs must be cut no longer than six feet in length and three inches in diameter

Branches and limbs must be stacked in a straight pile with the butt ends in one direction

Brush will not be picked up in alleys

Chunk wood will be picked up if piled at the curb and not heavier than 75 pounds

Linfoot Street project is continuing to move forward.  The plans and specifications for Linfoot Street Re-Build projects have passed all ODOT and Federal Highway Department reviews.   It is scheduled to be bid beginning April 2, 2015 and will be opened on April 30, 2015.  The award of contract should take place about June 1, 2015.    However the ODOT driven schedule does not call for work to begin until sometime in November, 2015.  That is why the City was forced to once again put some patches on the payment.  We have to keep it in reasonable service until work can begin.  From Ottokee Street through Shoop Avenue intersection Linfoot St. will have all new storm and sanitary sewers, plus a new water main.  ODOT's schedule has the underground improvements happening through the winter months.  The full depth pavement replacement, curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be done in the spring/summer of 2016.    The total construction estimate is $2,413,249.00.  The city received a grant from ODOT's Small Cities Program in the amount of $1,658,400.00.

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, remember to watch for our bicyclists and walkers on our streets and bike paths.  Have a safe and enjoyable spring.
